An inground swimming pool is a great addition to any home in Monmouth County, NJ. It provides a range of benefits, including:
The NJ Pool Builder Guide offers information on new pool construction in Monmouth County, NJ. Pools in this area can be indoor or outdoor, inground or above ground, and come in various sizes and shapes. There are three common construction methods for private swimming pools: concrete, vinyl liner, and fiberglass. Concrete pools are versatile and can be designed to fit unique spaces and shapes, while vinyl liner pools describe the method of lining the interior, not the construction materials.
It’s important to note that concrete pools are constructed on-site, with a specific set of steps that includes steel placement, concrete shell pour, backfilling and plumbing, electrician and waterline tiling, among others. There are also precautions to take with concrete pools, such as incorporating an unrestricted hydrostatic valve to prevent flotation during rainy months.
In-ground concrete swimming pools mostly consist of a steel reinforced gunite or shotcrete shell with marbelite plaster on the surface and tiles around the waterline. The bond beam, which refers to the top section of the pool wall beneath the coping, has additional steel reinforcement bars for strength and is caulked to the pool deck for stability.
When renovating a concrete swimming pool, our workers use a diamond masonry blade to cut under the tile line to preserve the tile. If new tile is being installed, workers set the tile out by 0.5 inch. The pool is then checked for loose plaster and a bond coat is applied to the structural shell. In some cases, all the old plaster must be chipped off before replastering. Air is hand driven to remove the existing plaster in a “keyway” under the tile and around other in-pool fittings. Any additional work, such as transition tile or fitting replacements, should be done before plastering.
Vinyl liner pools are a popular and less expensive option to gunite concrete, and are typically installed in a week. They come in a variety of designs and are available in different liner patterns and colors. They are popular due to their lower initial cost, better insulation, and child-friendly embossed non-slip finish. Chlorinated PVC thermoplastic vinyl pool liners are typically .20″ and .30″ gauge and recyclable when they reach their design life. They can be replaced in one to two days and a pool may have several new liners over its expected life.
